Terre Haute Airport Lands Major Honor

Subscribe NowThe Aviation Association of Indiana has named Terre Haute Regional Airport the "Airport of the Year." The honor is given based on criteria including economic development, aviation education, aesthetics and environmental improvements.
The award was presented to airport officials Wednesday during the association’s annual conference in Michigan City. Jeff Hauser, executive director of the Terre Haute Regional Airport says the honor represents the effort put in to improving the airport.
"It provides confirmation of a job well done to our staff, board members, partners and everyone who has worked so hard to make this a first-class asset for the region," said Hauser. "We feel like we’ve got more work to do and this award is something that gives us not only a great sign of recognition today, but a boost as we aim higher and higher."
Airport officials touted some of the work that was put in over the past year including a transformation of the interior and exterior of the main terminal, partnerships forged with regional entities to expand the local business base, and announcing the return of the Terre Haute Air Show in 2018.
"I believe the airport is one of the biggest assets to our community," said Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett. "The proximity to I-70, the 181st Intelligence Wing, and the spurred retail and economic activity, creates a lot of promise for the Terre Haute Regional Airport. I’m happy, but not surprised to learn of the recognition."
The airport says it was the third busiest airport in the state in 2016 and has seen a 42 percent increase in total operations between 2012 and 2016.
