The first radio play-by-play voice of the Indiana Pacers will take on a new role with the team. Jerry Baker will serve as the public address announcer at Bankers Life Fieldhouse this season, succeeding Michael Grady. Baker, who is also known for his work on Indianapolis 500 and Indiana High School Athletic Association State Basketball Finals broadcasts, is a member of the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame.

He was the radio voice of the Pacers from 1967 to 1972 and called the games on television from 1972-1977 and in the 1990s during several of the team’s deep playoff runs.

Pacers Sports & Entertainment Vice President of Game Operations Dean Heaviland said "for long-time Pacers’ fans, Jerry Baker’s voice is synonymous with the history of the blue and gold. He also has one of the most distinctive voices in all of sports. But more than that, Jerry is a seasoned professional who also will bring passion, energy and knowledge to Fieldhouse audiences."

He beat out nearly 100 candidates for the job. Baker is a Sullivan native and an Indiana State University graduate.
