New San Francisco Flight Begins Today

Alaska Airlines today begins nonstop daily service to San Francisco International Airport. The service is in addition to the airline’s nonstop to Seattle, which began in May.

When the service was first announced in March, Indy Airport Executive Director Mario Rodriguez said the move "sends a clear message about the value Alaska Airlines sees in Indianapolis," and called San Francisco a "crucial market that connects not only regions but continents."

The San Francisco flights will be served by Virgin American Airbus planes, which were added when Alaska Airlines acquired Virgin America. United Airlines also currently provides nonstop flights to San Francisco.

Earlier this month, the airport announced years of work to attract nonstop international air service resulted in new Delta Air Lines service to Paris. Those new flights are expected to begin May 24, and run at least three times per week. With that announcement, IND expanded its roster of nonstop offerings to 48 destinations.
