Muncie Neighborhood Projects Get Lift

(NYSE: LOW) will support neighborhood revitalization efforts in Muncie. Greater Muncie, IN Habitat for Humanity says it was the only Indiana organization to receive part of the company’s $1.75 million national commitment.
The Muncie organization has launched 8Twelve Coalition, a quality of life initiative focusing on housing, services, business development and beautification services. It’s working with community partners including the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie, Muncie Public Library, Muncie Mission and Ross Community Center.
Through the grant, the Boys and Girls Club will use $55,000 to improve the facility’s appearance, increase safety and enhance activity areas. Muncie Public Library will use $50,000 to build a community garden stand and outdoor kitchen. Muncie Mission is receiving $20,000 to rehabilitate a home to use for its transitional housing program. Ross Community Center will use $75,000 to upgrade playground equipment and create a serenity garden. Muncie Habitat is receiving $50,000 to fund home repair projects for 10 homeowners and to begin a new home construction project.
Lowe’s says it has committed more than $63 million nationally to Habitat for Humanity efforts since 2003.
