Terry Seitz says more than $34 million in investment has been announced for the Dubois County city recently. Projects include expansions by Kimball International Inc. (Nasdaq: KBAL) subsidiary Kimball Hospitality and German American Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: GABC).
The largest investment total, up to $18 million, is for a new senior living community and memory care center from Legacy Living of Indianapolis that is expected to break ground in November. Franchisee SERVUS!, which is based in Jasper and owns some 160 restaurants and theaters throughout the country, has planned a new headquarters. German American Bancorp’s investment in a planned operations center is expected to be around $6 million. Kimball Hospitality is looking to expand its presence in its home city.
Seitz says "I’ve had people say they are ‘stoked’ about Jasper’s future and with so many regional, national and international companies established here perhaps we should use the slogan ‘City of Headquarters.’ We are certainly investing for our future."
Community Development & Planning Director Darla Blazey says it’s a busy time for Jasper. "We’ve had continued investment from our established businesses and the interest in our community from new developers. All sectors of the economy are experiencing growth," she adds.
Officials say the city’s former electric plant has been the focus of interest form a technology company that is considering repurposing the facility for "non-generation uses later."
