Bird, who currently serves as chief operating officer and chief medical officer at Ball Memorial, will begin his new role May 28.
Bird succeeds Michael Haley, who is leaving to lead a behavioral health collaborative for IU Health. Bird has served in a variety of roles at Ball Memorial, including associate director of family medicine residency and vice president. He also practiced medicine in Muncie before joining the hospital.
"Anyone who knows me knows how deeply I care about this hospital and this community," said Bird. "As we look forward, I have a high level of confidence in the physicians, nurses and team members that provide care inside these walls every day. It will be an honor to continue to work alongside those folks to provide the best possible care for our patients."
A native of Muncie, Bird has also served as a member of the Ball Memorial Hospital board and chair of its medical staff.
