Hicks, who was this morning named TechPoint’s 2017 Trailblazer Mira Award winner, says that is good news for the next generation of tech entrepreneurs. She says a culture of collaboration among tech leaders has helped fuel a stronger business climate.
Hicks and others will be honored April 29 at the 18th annual Mira Awards at The Westin Indianapolis. Previous Trailblazer Award winners include Scott McCorkle, Chris Baggot, Jo Ann Gora and Michael McRobbie.
She says the entrepreneurship climate in central Indiana has "changed a ton" since she and venture capitalist Bill Oesterle founded Angie’s List in 1995. The biggest change, she says, is the wealth of support systems for startups, including The Orr Fellowship, TechPoint and coworking systems like the Speak Easy. Hicks says that encourages people to take risks and enter the difficult journey of starting a business.
Since its founding, Angie’s List has grown to more than 1,500 employees and five million members using its home service contractor review platform.
