Indiana Landmarks has named the Dephi Preservation Society winner of the annual Cook Cup for Outstanding Restoration. The organization will be featured at an event April 29 in Indianapolis for its work to overhaul the 1865 Delphi Opera House.

The Delphi Preservation Society bought the building in 1996. The project eventually became a feature of the city’s winning bid for the 2012 Indiana Stellar Communities program, which involved a $2.6 million matching grant to wrap-up the remaining restoration work. The efforts totaled some $4.3 million.

The organization has launched a campaign to retire the $1.7 million in financing it took on as part of a Stellar match. Former Society President Anita Werling, who led the restoration efforts says "Delphi Preservation Society recognized the Stellar Communities grant as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to completely bring back a building that was central to the community and to Delphi’s revitalization strategy."

The theater re-opened, fully-restored in late 2015.
