Robotics teams from more than 30 Indiana high school students will compete this weekend in the Indiana State Championship. The event, taking place Friday and Saturday, will determine which 10 teams move on face nearly 400 others in the FIRST World Championship later this month in St. Louis.

The State Championship will be held at Huntington North High School. The competitors were determined from three previous district competitions.

Indiana FIRST says the Cyber Blue team from Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis currently leads with 128 district points, followed by the Pike RoboDevils from Pike High School in Indianapolis with 103 district points. Team Hammond is ranked third with 101 district points.

Each team has had six weeks to build and prepare robots to compete in the 2017 challenge, called FIRST STEAMWORKS, which is an ode to a time when technology was powered by steam. The FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, World Championship will take place April 26 to 29.
