$20M Surgical Upgrades Almost Complete in Munster

Subscribe NowThe nearly four-year-long Surgical Services department construction overhaul at Community Hospital in Munster is almost complete. The $20 million project involves expansion of the department on the hospital’s main floor and features include a new hybrid surgical suite for traditional, open-chest heart procedures and minimally-invasive techniques.
The improvements also include complete renovation of four existing operating rooms with two robot-assisted da Vinci Si Surgical Systems setups, four fully-integrated operating suites for neurosurgery, spine surgery and orthopedic procedures and remodeled surgical admission and post-anesthesia units.

These achievements, along with an ongoing evolution in technology and the need to make available more intricate spine, cardiothoracic and valve surgeries closer to home are the reasons we are taking this opportunity to expand."
In all, there are now 16 post-anesthesia care unit beds and 27 surgical procedure beds. The project is part of a $40 million total investment that began five years ago at Community Hospital, including the new Emergency Department Pavilion and additional private rooms on three floors.
