Subscribe NowThe second annual America’s Role in the World conference is underway at Indiana University’s School of Global and International Studies in Bloomington. The two-day event, co-convened by former U.S. Senator Dick Lugar and former Representative Lee Hamilton, is focusing on issues including international relations, security challenges and global trade. In his opening remarks, Lugar said America’s role will be influenced by "many people who are studying here now."
One session, set for Thursday afternoon, will specifically focus on Indiana’s role in the world. Topics will include how technological change and global competition have changed Indiana’s manufacturing-heavy economy, and how the state is addressing those issues with skill and innovation. Indiana University President Michael McRobbie and Governor Eric Holcomb will give opening remarks. The panelists will be South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton, La Porte Mayor Blair Milo, Pacers Sports & Entertainment Vice Chairman Jim Morris and Cook Group Chief Executive Officer Pete Yonkman.
Other participants in the conference include Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Roger Cohen, The Washington Post columnist and National Public Radio commentator E.J. Dionne Jr and New Yorker contributor Maria Lipman.
