The first-term mayor says the strategy focuses on areas including safety, boosting neighborhoods and economic development.
Among the initiatives outlined by the plan is the creation of an economic executive committee. The group will work with the Morgan County Economic Development Corp. to help attract new businesses downtown. The administration says it will also work to improve communications with residents through a revamped website.
On the economic development front, Kohl says the city will also use a recent I-69 Economic development Impact Study as a starting point to update the city’s economic strategy and develop tax incentives to use as economic development tools.
The city will also push a Neighborhood Crime Watch Program, a strategic paving initiative and stronger enforcement of state legislation for structurally-unsound buildings and homes.
Mayor Kohl, who is also an executive board member for the Morgan County EDC, says her administration put together the plan through input from department heads and residents as well as carry-over projects from last year.
