Poultry Company Plans Vigo County Hatchery

Subscribe NowMinnesota-based Select Genetics is planning to invest $22 million into a new turkey hatchery in the Wabash Valley. The company is looking to break ground on the Terre Haute operation next month and could add up to 100 jobs over the next year. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says the state ranked fourth in the U.S. in 2015 in turkey production.
The 83,000 square-foot facility in the Vigo County Industrial Park will be the company’s ninth U.S. turkey operation. Production is expected to begin in the spring of 2018.
Chief Executive Officer J. Douglas says "Select Genetics is proud to bring a state-of-the-art turkey hatchery to Vigo County. Our company is committed to investing in research and development and to promoting the highest standards of animal welfare. These commitments plus a great business environment in Indiana will allow Select Genetics to remain the premier supplier of turkey poults worldwide."
The operation will be the company’s first in the state. Select Genetics has more than 1,400 employees throughout the country. It has been offered a total of up to $550,000 in conditional tax credits and training grants through the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
