Amtrak Set For Hoosier State Transition

The new two-year state budget includes $3 million per year for the Hoosier State service.

One month after Chicago-based Iowa Pacific Holdings Inc. and the Indiana Department of Transportation announced a mutual separation agreement, Amtrak has detailed the service it will provide starting Wednesday on the Hoosier State rail line. The passenger rail company will resume its role as provider of all services on the four-day-a-week route between Indianapolis and Chicago.

Amtrak will use its Horizon Series coach cars, a 14-seat business class car and a cafe car for the Hoosier State. It will also offer free wi-fi.

Beginning in late-2015, Iowa Pacific took over as the route’s train, on-board service and marketing provider. Amtrak was the previous operator of the Hoosier State and partnered with INDOT and the communities along the route and continued covering ticketing, track coordination and train crews during the year-plus Iowa Pacific era. It has stops along the way in Crawfordsville, Lafayette, Rensselaer and Dyer.
