Interior Restoration Work Begins at Inventrek

Crews have completed work on the main roof of the facility, which partially collapsed in late August due to tornado-producing storms.
The interior of the building also suffered extensive water damage and required a complete restoration after mitigation efforts were completed following the storm. The Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance says work on the secondary roof of the facility will continue along with the restoration of the building’s interior.
"The interior project will include a replacement and upgrade of both the HVAC and electrical systems," said Mike McCool, manager of economic development for the organization. "Some walls had to be taken out completely, so those will be replaced. Then, all walls in the facility will be painted or wallpapered, and we’ll be putting in all new carpeting and flooring. Every ceiling tile in the 98,000-square-foot facility will be replaced. It’s clearly a major restoration project."
The business incubator portion of the facility is expected to open in March or April, according to GKEDA. Restoration will be ongoing throughout the remainder of the building.
Inventrek is home to a number of tenants, including the city’s first co-working space, The Shared Drive, which opened last year. The Shared Drive and five other tenants are currently being housed in a temporary space and GKEDA says they, along with several other businesses previously located at Inventrek, are planning to return once restoration efforts are complete.
McCool, who manages Inventrek, says the facility’s application for re-certification as a Certified Technology Park had been delayed due to the storm damage. He says the certification should be complete by the time the facility reopens.
