Griffin, who most recently served as chief operating officer for Atlas, succeeds Glen Dunkerson, who will continue as chairman of the board through 2017.
Griffin was named president and COO of Atlas in 2010. The company says he has been responsible for leading its new sustainability program, which aimed to help Atlas agents become more environmentally conscious.
"Having had the pleasure to work alongside Jack for nearly a decade, I can tell you there is no one more fit to lead Atlas into the future," said Dunkerson. "His unwavering respect for our agency network and customers has rightfully earned him this significant responsibility and opportunity."
Prior to joining Atlas, Griffin served as senior vice president of business development for Indianapolis-based Bekins Van Lines. Griffin also serves as chairman of the Moving & Storage Institute, which is the philanthropic arm of the American Moving and Storage Association.
"I am honored to assume this leadership role to carry out our strategic vision to further differentiate Atlas in the marketplace," said Griffin. "For our future, I am committed to acquiring and allocating the necessary resources and leadership to support our most important initiatives that will take us into the new decade, while carrying on the company’s tradition of impacting the communities in which we operate."
