Tsuchiya Expanding in Bloomington

Ltd. has announced plans to expand its Bloomington headquarters. Tsuchiya Group North America will invest $9.2 million to build a new headquarters and research and development center in The Trades District in downtown Bloomington.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says Tsuchiya expects to break ground on the facility in 2018 and add up to 18 jobs by 2020. The facility will serve as the company’s first North American engineering and design center. Tsuchiya Group operates four TASUS Corp. manufacturing facilities throughout North America.
"For Tsuchiya Group and TASUS, this is an ideal location to open a manufacturing technical and design center," said Melanie Walker Hart, chief executive officer of Tsuchiya Group North America. "Since beginning operations in 1989 with nine employees, we have grown to nearly 600 in North America, with over 200 of those talented individuals coming from right here in south central Indiana. The city of Bloomington and Indiana University’s partnership in the development of the Trades District is an excellent example of how a city can grow its local economy through increased technical-based job opportunities."
Tsuchiya, which manufacturers automotive products for companies such as Toyota Motor Corp., Tesla Motors, Honda Motor Co. and Subaru of Indiana Automotive, currently employs more than 30 workers at its Bloomington headquarters. The company plans to begin hiring for engineering, sales and executive positions at the new facility in 2018.
The IEDC has offered the company up to $300,000 in conditional tax credits and up to nearly $44,000 in training grants. Tsuchiya will not be eligible to claim the performance-based incentives until Hoosier workers are hired.
