(Nasdaq: FINL) is considering options for its JackRabbit specialty running shoe chain, including a potential sale. The athletic shoe and apparel retailer says focusing on the Finish Line brand and simplifying the business will be a better long-term strategy.
The company is currently focusing on growth and improving profitability. It has brought on New York-based Peter J. Solomon Co. LLC to advise on the process. A timeline for "exploring strategic options" has not been determined.
JackRabbit, which was previously referred to within the company as the Running Specialty Group, was a big focus for The Finish Line. In early 2015, Colorado-based RSG acquired the four-store JackRabbit Sports Chain in New York City. Though its overall store numbers have dwindled over the last 18 months, the specialty chain has 70 locations in 17 states under several names. Last year, The Finish Line detailed a gradual rebranding of the various store names as JackRabbit.
Overall, The Finish Line has approximately 980 locations in malls and inside Macy’s department stores. It employs over 14,000 nationwide.
