Hoosier Schools Rank High For International Students

Subscribe NowTwo Indiana universities are among the top institutions in the country for hosting international students, according to the Institute of International Education. The institute’s 2016 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange says Purdue University and Indiana University are ranked among the top 25 institutions, which account for more than 21 percent of all international students.
Purdue University is ranked at number 8 on the list with 10,563 international students during the 2015-2016 academic year, which is a 3.3 percent increase from the previous year. Indiana University comes in at number 17 with 7,159 international students, which is 2.1 percent higher than the previous year.
The IIE, which released the report in conjunction with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, says the number of international students at U.S. colleges and universities surpassed one million for the very first time. That number, which totaled 1,044,000, represented 5 percent of the total student population during the 2015-16 academic year.
New York University was ranked at number one, followed by the University of Southern California, Arizona State University – Tempe, Columbia University and the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign. You can view the full rankings by clicking here.
Several colleges and universities in the state also rank high in terms of study abroad participation by domestic students:
- Among Top 40 Doctorate-granting institutions, Notre Dame was number one in the state and number four overall.
- Among Top 40 Master’s colleges and universities, the University of Evansville was number one in the state and number 21 overall.
- Among Top 40 Baccalaureate colleges, DePauw University was number one in the state and number 4 overall.
