(NYSE: RXN) says it has "tentatively decided" to relocate manufacturing operations to an existing facility in Monterrey.
A spokesperson for Rexnord says a final decision has not yet been made. If the relocation does occur, the company says it would take place between April and June of 2017.
"We understand, recognize and respect that in these circumstances discussion and openness with the Steelworkers Union is an important step," the spokesperson said. "We have invited the Union to join us in an open and frank discussion over this potential relocation and the impact it would have on Rexnord associates and their families."
The announcement comes eight months after Connecticut-based United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) announced it was moving manufacturing operations from its subsidiaries, Carrier Corp. in Indianapolis and United Technologies Electronics Corp. in Huntington, to Mexico. The move is expected to affect some 2,100 workers between the two facilities.
