Crews placed the final steel beam of the 175,000 square-foot building yesterday in a "topping out" ceremony.
The facility, which will be connected to the Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2018.
"We are one step closer to completing our vision for innovative cancer care," said Mike Packnett, chief executive officer of Parkview Health. "This is going to be a beautiful facility but the true foundation on which we build these walls is to provide a comfortable, healing environment for patients and their families."
Parkview says the facility aims to incorporate a healing environment for patients in order "minimize the feeling of being in a hospital." In a May 2015 interview with Inside INdiana Business, Packnett said the health system is expecting a 50 percent increase in demand for cancer services over the next six or seven years.
