Projects Land Regional Cities Funding

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Economic Development Corp. has approved more than $6 million in Regional Cities Initiative funding to support projects in north central Indiana. The proposals are part of the region’s Innovate Indiana plan, which includes more than $700 million worth of quality of place investments.
The IEDC approved $2 million for the Marshall County Wellness and Life Enrichment Center project. The project, totaling $13 million, includes the construction of an aquatic center and an indoor/outdoor soccer complex in Plymouth which aims to enhance community amenities, create youth programming and increase health and fitness opportunities for residents.
The state has also approved $800,000 for the first phase of the South Shore Line double-tracking project. The money will go toward the environmental and preliminary engineering work needed to qualify for federal funding. The Regional Cities funding adds to a $1.6 million grant awarded in April, to help meet the $4 million cost for the preliminary work.
Finally, $3.5 million has been approved for renovations of two buildings at the former Studebaker Corp. assembly plant in South Bend. Work on the buildings is expected to be complete in March as part of the more than $165 million project to redevelop the complex as part of the city’s Renaissance District.

"The Marshall County Wellness and Life Enrichment Center, South Shore Line improvements and the redevelopment of the Studebaker campus will have a dramatic and longstanding impact on north central Indiana’s growing economy."
