The Swedish furniture retailer has hired contractors for the project, which is expected to break ground next month.
IKEA has selected Illinois-based Pepper Construction Group to serve as construction manager for the project. The company, which has a location in Indiana, has previously developed the IKEA store in Bloomington, Minnesota and is currently building a store in Columbus, Ohio.
Other local firms chosen to assist with the project include Indianapolis-based KJWW Engineering Consultants, Indianapolis-based law firm Faegre Baker Daniels for local land use counsel and Fort Wayne-based Earth Source Inc. for environmental services.
"With contractors onboard, plans can proceed towards opening the future IKEA Fishers," said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president. "This store will provide a more convenient IKEA shopping experience for current and potential customers throughout Indiana, complementing our growing Midwestern U.S. presence."
The store, which is about 7,000 square-feet smaller than originally estimated, and its 1,000-space parking lot will sit on 35 acres of land bear Interstate 69 and 116th Street. In January, the city of Fishers approved a rezoning ordinance for the project, following a November ruling that waived $1.6 million in development fees.
