He says the balanced budget allows for the hiring of nearly 30 police officers and provides nearly $24 million for neighborhood infrastructure improvements.
The city says the $158 million budget reflects its position as "a leader in economic development opportunities, job growth, strong neighborhoods and quality of life amenities." The budget does not include Fort Wayne City Utilities, which has its own budget, according to the city.
"We’re seeing momentum, investments, and excitement in Fort Wayne like never before," said Henry. "I’m encouraged the 2017 budget places a priority on public safety, neighborhood infrastructure, and our award-winning Parks. Strong leadership and placing an emphasis on moving our community forward in the right direction with fiscal discipline is resulting in thriving neighborhoods, a positive business climate, and new jobs."
The budget also calls for $7.7 million for maintenance projects at city parks. Henry’s administration will formally present the budget to the Fort Wayne City Council on September 27.
