SOUTH BEND – The South Bend Redevelopment Commission has approved a $21 million mixed-use development near Four Winds Field. Berlin Place, which is being proposed by South Bend Cubs owner Andrew Berlin, will include 120 apartments and 10,000 square-feet of retail space.
The city is offering $3.4 million in tax increment financing revenues to cover the cost of infrastructure improvements. The remaining $18 million needed for the project is being funded by Berlin.
Some of the apartment units will overlook the playing field and the development will include a rooftop party deck that will overlook left field. Construction on the project could begin later this year. Indianapolis-based TWG Development LLC, which will construct the facility, hopes to complete the project in the spring of 2018.
Berlin tells the South Bend Tribune construction will not interfere with ballpark operations.
