Greenwood Launches G.R.O.W. Initiative

The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission has approved $500,000 in matching grant funds for the “G.R.O.W. Greenwood Initiative."
"G.R.O.W." stands for Granting Revitalization and Opportunity for the Workplace. The city says the funds can be used for projects including facades, signage, art installation, landscaping, green infrastructure, lighting, decorative fencing and other exterior improvements.
"This investment will benefit Greenwood on a number of fronts," said Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers. "Community aesthetics play a fundamental role in attracting and retaining both residents and businesses. We’re investing in making public spaces more appealing, and this initiative creates an incentive for local businesses to follow suit."
Myers says the the city is encouraging additional private investment as well, which will help to preserve and raise property values. The city detailed criteria for the initiative as part of its presentation to the RDC, which include:
- Within a geographic boundary of Fry Road (north), Smith Valley Road (south), U.S. 31 (west) and the Main Street corridor extending to Graham Road (east)
- Prominent locations
- Project is part of a larger set of improvements
- Potential for job creation/retention
The city says it will develop a process to determine eligibility, approval and selection of projects based upon the above criteria. The money approved by the RDC will support the first year of the initiative.
