The system, which is expected to take up to two years to implement, will give patients access to care management and medical record information.
The partnership will allow Reid to incorporate electronic medical record and business applications from Epic Systems, which Community Health Network is already using. Reid Health says it will include a patient portal, access to records at all care sites and will allow Reid to connect to a larger health system in order to share clinical practice standards.
The Reid Health Board of Directors approved the collaboration this week. The health systems plan to kick off the project later this year, with building and implementation of the system, known as Epic Systems, expected to take another 12 to 15 months.
"We will reap much benefit from this major technology change and upgrade, because Community Health Network is already established as an Epic Systems user and brings that experience to Reid Health,” said Craig Kinyon, chief executive officer of Reid Health. "The implementation of the Epic applications, much like our recent campus replacement project, continues to build upon our focus in adopting leading patient care technology that brings advanced tools to physicians and clinicians in caring for the health of our community."
Reid says the new patient portal will eventually replace its current one, giving patients a direct electronic connection between patients and providers.
