Officials will mark the beginning of construction on a more than $23 million assisted living community Thursday afternoon in Merrillville. Illinois-based Gardant Management Solutions says Belvedere Senior Housing will feature 126 studio and one-bedroom apartments.

Amenities include a large community space, private dining room, movie theater, fitness center, TV lounge and outdoor patio. Fifty full and part-time employees will staff the Bravo Properties development, which was designed by Gleason Architects PC and will be built by Alston Construction.

The Belvedere is slated to open in the fall of 2017.

The company is the largest of its kind in Illinois, operating more than 40 facilities in the Midwest, including the Oasis at 30th in Indianapolis.
