Chandler-based Electronics Research Inc. says it will add around 100 workers and three buildings by the end of the year to keep up with expected demand.
The FCC will hold a voluntary auction soon for television stations looking to offload bandwidth, primarily to telecommunications companies. WIPB-TV in Muncie will participate in the auction, which could potentially bring its owner, Ball State University, millions of dollars under the right circumstances.
ERI Chief Executive Officer Tom Silliman says the Warrick County company is working with T-Mobile ahead of the completed auction, which "enables ERI to be first in the category to manufacture and install a high volume of the antennas needed to clear spectrum, and do it faster than we’d otherwise be able to. ERI will have the capacity to manufacture television antennas, transmission line, and filter systems and to have trained and equipped installation crews at the beginning of the FCC’s 39 month clearing window."
ERI says the expansion will help it boost production of television antennas, transmission line and RF components 800 percent, as well as increase training efforts for manufacturing, testing and installation employees.
The company is not disclosing the investment in the expansion.
