For the first time in more than 60 years, the Indianapolis 500 will be broadcast live on television in the Indianapolis market. During a news conference this morning at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, President Doug Boles and Hulman and Co. Chief Executive Officer Mark Miles said the lifting of the local blackout was prompted by a sellout of reserve and general admission seating in advance of Sunday’s 100th Running of the Indy 500.

Boles says the event has come a long way since the first in 1911, which drew 84,000 fans. This year’s Indy 500 will bring hundreds of thousands to the historic venue. It is considered the largest single-day sporting event in the world.
