Medical educators and Hoosier health care leaders will meet for the first time tomorrow, aiming to create more residency opportunities for medical students in Indiana. State leaders created the Indiana Graduate Medical Education Board in the 2015 legislative session to expand medical education in the state. The board will award almost $6 million in the next two years to support the creation of new residency programs at hospitals and health centers throughout the state. 

The statewide effort includes medical educators from Evansville, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis and chief executive officers of several health systems. The first meeting will take place tomorrow in Indianapolis.

The board members are:

• Fort Wayne Medical Education Program President and Chief Executive Officer James Buchanan
• Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine Private Practice and Clinical Assistant Professor Mark Cantieri
• Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine Dean Paul Evans
• Riley Hospital for Children Interim President and Chief Medical Officer Paul Haut
• Community Health Network East Family Medicine Residency Program Program Director Tricia Hern
• Community Health Network President and CEO Bryan Mills
• Indiana University School of Medicine Executive Associate Dean for Educational Affairs Peter Nalin
• Margaret Mary Health President and CEO Tim Putnam
