The rankings include data from the Census Bureau and 2014 FBI crime statistics. Consumer Affairs ranked Zionsville 35th in the nation as well.
"It is the people that make Zionsville the community it is," said Zionsville Mayor Tim Haak. "Citizens are active and engaged in their community and look out for one another. Our police department has many partners in protecting our community, be it the schools, homeowners associations, community organizations – all work together and cooperate to make our community a safe place to work and live."
Last year, Zionsville was ranked the second safest city in America in a report from ADT Security, following only Glen Cove, New York.
Fishers and Carmel round out the top five on the Consumer Affairs list. They are followed by Dyer, Westfield, Greensburg, Lowell and Berne.
“I’m not surprised that Westfield is consistently listed as one of the safest communities in Indiana,” Mayor Andy Cook said. “Our public safety professionals take their jobs very seriously and work tirelessly to keep our residents and visitors out of harm’s way.”
