The Vincennes University Board of Trustees has named Chuck Johnson the school’s 22nd president. The former VU provost has led the institution on an interim basis since August.  He previously spent more than 14 years overseeing multiple programs within the Purdue University Krannert School of Management. He succeeds Dick Helton, who took the helm in 2004 and announced his retirement earlier this year.

Board Chair John Stachura says "in addition to serving as the University’s Chief Academic Officer, Chuck played a significant role in the development of business and industry partnerships. He has also been instrumental in developing collaborative relationships with K-12 schools and career and technical education centers, assuring that a college degree is accessible and affordable for thousands of Hoosiers and their families."

The Daviess County native has been with VU since 2012. His responsibilities at Indiana’s oldest university have involved academic, business and industry relations components. 

Johnson says "VU is well positioned for continued success and growth thanks to the legacy of Dr. Helton and the hard work of our faculty and staff. VU is where it is today because of the quality reputation we’ve built over more than 200 years and I look forward to working with all of our partners and stakeholders to serve the needs of our State and keep VU strong."

Johnson is a graduate of Washington Catholic High School and Indiana State University. He has an MBA from Bowling Green State University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Purdue.

VU has campuses in Vincennes and Jasper and sites in Indianapolis and Gibson County.

U offers 200 associate degree and certificate programs and bachelor’s degree programs in technology, homeland security, nursing, secondary education programs in mathematics and science and special education/elementary education.
