LLC has reached an acquisition agreement for the DNA herbicide portfolio of Dow AgroSciences LLC in Indianapolis. The deal includes a formulation and packaging facility in Canada.
The acquisition is expected to close by year’s end. Last month, Dow AgroSciences’ parent the Dow Chemical Co. (NYSE: DOW) announced it was "examining strategic options" involving the Marion County-headquartered subsidiary. Dow announced plans to "review all options with a best-owner mindset, with a focus on creating new synergies," calling Dow AgroSciences a "highly attractive and well-positioned business."
The global brands involved in the Gowan acquisition include Treflan, Edge, Team, Bonalan and Sonalan. Dow AgroSciences’ DNA portfolio has a presence in 22 countries. The products help control weeds in crops such as cotton, beans, canola, cereals, crucifers, cucurbits and vegetables.
Gowan Group Chief Executive Officer Juli Jessen says "we are enthusiastic to be able to acquire these proven products in this critical era for herbicide resistance management. The products are particularly significant for us in Canada and Europe where our growing sales force is centered on extending the utility of herbicide programs. And we are grateful for the opportunity to defend and evolve the DNAs for niches that have long been our sweet spot, such as vegetables and turf. This move is part of Gowan’s continued efforts to deliver solid chemistry to help solve our customers’ needs."
Dow AgroSciences Vice President of Crop Protection Ramiro De La Cruz says "these products have been essential to modern weed control, and our sale of the DNA business doesn’t diminish this history as we look to the future and invest in innovative and differentiated products."
