Officials Cut Ribbon on ‘Diverging Diamond’ Interchange

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Department of Transportation and the city of Greenwood have cut the ribbon on an interchange with an uncommon design. The "diverging diamond," which will open to traffic later this week, will move traffic between I-65 and Worthsville Road in Johnson County.
What makes travel on the interchange different than most others in the state is a traffic light-controlled crisscross pattern that momentarily puts drivers on the opposite side of the typical pattern.
The more than $16 million project is a joint venture between Anderson-based E&B Paving Inc. and Gradex, Inc. of Carmel.
The remaining paving and striping work is expected to be finished Wednesday, which will allow traffic to open. INDOT says the "substantial" commercial and residential growth has led to higher traffic volumes in the area. The department says the new interchange will help not only alleviate some congestion, but also enhance economic growth and provide better east-west connectivity and traffic movement.
