Dell Foundation Supports The Mind Trust

Indianapolis-based The Mind Trust has been awarded nearly $600,000 from the foundation started by technology entrepreneur Michael Dell. The funding from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation will help launch Enroll Indy, which is described as a "central hub" for information on public school options in the city.

Caitlin Hannon has been awarded an Education Entrepreneur Fellowship from The Mind Trust to develop and launching Enroll Indy over the next two years. The program will focus on the 60 Indianapolis Public Schools, which serve a total of 31,000 students and 39 city-run charter schools with 15,000 students.

The grant will also support two research initiatives: equity reports for Indianapolis public and charter schools and a pilot survey based on the 20-year-old 5Essentials program from the University of Chicago.

The Mind Trust Chief Executive Officer David Harris says "these efforts will provide Indianapolis families with meaningful information on schools, giving them access to a more equitable, transparent school choice system. What’s more, these systems will provide the community with unambiguous school demand data, which can help policy makers make decisions on improving the academic performance and learning environment of various schools."
