FedEx Predicts Record Holiday Season

(NYSE: FDX), which operates a major distribution hub at Indianapolis International Airport, is predicting a record holiday shipping season. The company is expecting around 317 million shipments between Black Friday and Christmas Eve, which would be a 12 percent increase over last year.
FedEx is projecting volume spikes on Cyber Monday and the first two Mondays in December. The company says it has invested more than $1.5 billion in FedEx Ground this fiscal year, including more than 160 major expansion projects. It says it is adding more than 55,000 thousand positions throughout its network to handle the holiday increase.
Purdue University retail management professor Richard Feinberg has said he expects national holiday retail sales to hit $1 trillion for the first time this year. He says job growth and lower gas prices are putting consumers in the mood to spend more this season.
The Indianapolis hub opened more than 25 years ago and employs thousands of Hoosiers.
