Ancilla College in Marshall County is reporting an enrollment increase of more than 20 percent. The Donaldson school says it is the first enrollment bump in seven years.

Ancilla says the addition of new academic and athletic programs and the construction of its first residence hall helped fuel the growth. The official fall count is 473 students. The school has a goal of reaching 600 for the 2016-2017 academic year.

The college says it admitted 213 new students this year, which is an increase from 159 new students last year. Ancilla says existing programs, such as the Division of Nursing and Health Sciences, have experienced significant growth.

Ancilla has also nearly doubled its athletic teams. The school added women’s golf and soccer in 2015-2016, and will add men’s and women’s bowling, cross country, tennis, lacrosse and men’s wrestling next year.

A second new residence hall is set to open in the fall of 2016. The school says it will be able to house at least 100 students. President Ken Zirkle says the project allows the school to "cater to a much larger student demographic."
