Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Homework Hotline model is coming to three branch campuses of Penn State University. Representatives from the school have visited Terre Haute to learn about the operations of the hotline and talk to student tutors.

Penn State’s New Kensington and Berks campuses plan to start the tutoring service next spring. Penn State Schuylkhill may follow next fall. The school plans to start with math tutoring, then add science later.

The Homework Hotline provides tutoring services from Rose-Hulman students by telephone, online chat sessions or email. It also includes online resources including tutorial videos and worksheets for students to work on math and science concepts outside of normal operating hours. The school says the Homework Hotline has helped more than 500,000 Indiana students since 1991.

The Homework Hotline model has also been adapted for use by Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California and the University of Southern Illinois.
