The privately-funded project will start in the spring.
“Across the country and our state, when it comes to broadband technology, the research is clear. Communities without the most up-to-date advanced telecommunications infrastructure will likely suffer economically and socially. With the ‘High-Speed Huntingburg’ project, we are bridging the technology gap that exists in many rural Indiana communities and giving Huntingburg yet another chance to thrive and grow. Having a trusted local and experienced company like PSC to commit to such a project makes this announcement even more exciting. Meeting local telecommunications needs is part of PSC’s history, and ‘High-Speed Huntingburg’ creates a vision not only for the future for their company, but for the businesses, industry and citizens of Huntingburg,” Mayor Spinner said.
The city says the engineering study has already started. The first phase of the project is set to begin at the Hunters Crossing housing development.
“PSC is excited to be constructing a high-speed fiber optic network in Huntingburg. We have successfully deployed these advanced broadband networks elsewhere, and have seen firsthand their impact on the community. In addition to the technology, PSC will provide the residents of Huntingburg with customer support and service that truly will set us apart from our competition,” PSC President & CEO Jim Dauby said.
