Boonville Bypass On-Track

The funding includes $435 million in Local Option Income Tax money as well as an additional $70 million for local government rainy day funds.

Construction is underway on a nearly $20 million bypass project in Boonville. The rerouted stretch will help keep heavy trucks carrying industrial cargo like coal from driving through the Warrick County city.

In a statement, Representative Ron Bacon (R-75) said "after 50 years of frustration and several years of planning, I shared in the joy of our community this past Thursday as we officially broke ground on the Boonville Bypass. This 4.2-mile bypass will route traffic around the west end of the city, thus avoiding the rattling of store-front windows, traffic congestion and that lingering layer of dust and dirt – all of which have become typical of downtown."

Columbus-based Force Construction is leading the project. Blankenberger Brothers Construction of Cynthiana previously completed work to prepare utilities for the roadway. INDOT says some roundabouts are involved where the new road will meet New Harmony, Eskew and Millersburg roads.

Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann, who took part in the groundbreaking ceremony, calls the bypass a "long-anticipated" project that will improve safety and mobility.
