Two Indiana University researchers will use a $1.6 million grant to study a non-drug treatment for women with breast cancer. The funding from the U.S. Department of Defense will support research on low-intensity vibration therapy.

Theresa Guise and William Thompson will lead the research. Guise is the Jerry and Peggy Throgmartin Professor of Oncology at the IU School of Medicine and an Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center researcher. Thompson is an assistant professor at the IU School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

The vibration therapy aims to restrict muscle weakness and bone loss in breast cancer treatment. The researchers say the treatment may also prevent the cancer from spreading to bones.
