Subscribe NowA New York-based online pre-owned car retailer is setting up operations in Boone County and creating up to 220 jobs by 2020. Vroom has announced plans to invest more than $13 million to build a reconditioning and fulfillment center in Whitestown.
The company says the more than 500,000 square-foot facility will be able to house up to 2,500 vehicles at a time. Construction is set to begin immediately, with plans for the center to be operational in December. The company says vehicles will be refurbished onsite. It plans to offer 24-hour delivery within a 300-mile radius of the facility.
Vroom currently employs 140 in New York and at a Dallas fulfillment facility. The company plans to begin hiring for logistics and automotive repair positions within the next month. Vroom says the new Indiana facility will help the company meet growing demand and expand its one-day delivery area.
The retailer offers refurbished, pre-owned vehicles. It says customers can purchase, finance and sell the cars online.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered Vroom nearly $3.5 million in conditional tax credits and training grants based on its job creation plans. The town of Whitestown will also consider incentives.
