The school says "For All: The Indiana University Bicentennial Campaign" has raised nearly $1.2 billion to date from more than 200,000 donors. At the launch event, Stilllife Construction owner David Henry Jacobs announced a $20 million gift to the Jacobs School of Music.
The campaign has set a 2020 benchmark for its record $2.5 billion goal. President Michael McRobbie says the campaign’s goals "are the most ambitious in Indiana University’s history" and will set the school "on the course for greatness in its third century."
IU says the funding will support its Bicentennial Strategic Plan, which was approved last year. The plan outlines four broad goals:
1. Enabling student success and support
2. Creating the next generation of global leaders
3. Recruiting and retaining the best and most creative faculty who will lead the discoveries and innovations that transform how we live
4. Creating a healthier state, nation and world
The school says the For All campaign involves all of its campuses throughout the state, making it IU’s first true "university-wide campaign."
IU says David Jacobs’ gift will support a deanship, faculty support, research scholarships, student travel and other initiatives from the Jacobs School of Music. He was the driving force behind a gift of more than $40 million from his mother Barbara in 2005.
Other notable gifts include Cindy Simon Skjodt’s $40 million donation to renovate Assembly Hall and $25 million from the Lilly Foundation for the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare program.
