The self-publishing company says the deal with Alliant International University will create Alliant Press, which will publish academic works of students, staff and alumni.
Alliant Press will also publish works from select authors chosen by an editorial board of scholarly experts. AIU will fund the works, and authors will maintain copyrights and receive book royalties.
Author Solutions Chief Executive Officer Andrew Phillips says launching a university press is too expensive for most colleges and universities. In a release, Phillips said, "For some time, we’ve believed that bringing the efficiencies of supported self-publishing to the university-press model could dramatically reduce barriers of entry, ultimately resulting in learning institutions disseminating scholarship for the greater good."
Earlier this month, Author Solutions announced a media partnership with California-based Paulist Productions. Under that agreement, Paulist will review titles from Author Solutions for possible film or television adaptations.
