The Indiana State Department of Agriculture has awarded more than $425,000 to five specialty crop projects. ISDA Director Ted McKinney says the funding aims to enhance and promote Indiana’s growing food and agriculture industry.

The recipients include:

Growing Places Indy’s Perennial Specialty crops received $25,000 to expand production and educational opportunities.

Purdue University researchers received $67,037.55 for a project aiming to lessen the severity of bacterial spot of tomatoes in Indiana by 10 percent.

Purdue University’s Facilitating Development of a Sustainable Local Hop Industry project received $78,367.55 support and promote Indiana’s hop industry.

ISDA’s Indiana Grown Project received $126,314.05 to strengthen its "buy local" campaign.

Indiana University’s Specialty Crops and High Tunnels project received $128,471.90 to study the effects of high tunnel enterprises on growers’ and society’s goals.
