The funding will support planning efforts for the South Shore Railroad extension from Hammond to Dyer.
The funding comes from the Federal Transit Administration’s Transit-Oriented Development Planning Awards Pilot Program. The effort aims to support transit-oriented planning activities and encourage private sector involvement.
NICTD General Manager Mike Noland calls the grant "great news," saying it validates the efforts from Munster, Dyer and Hammond to design stations and provide growth opportunities along the West Lake Corridor.
