Commission to Examine Teacher Shortage
Glenda Ritz says the grants are in-line with the departments support of high-need schools.

Subscribe NowIndiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz has named the members of a Blue Ribbon Commission on recruiting and retaining teachers. The department says the effort aims to address a "significant decline" in the number of people receiving teaching licenses in recent years.
The IDOE says, over the last five years, there has been an 18 percent drop in the number of initial teacher licenses issued. Ritz says she will use input from the commission to shape the department’s agenda for the upcoming legislative session. The first meeting is set for September 11.
