BlueIndy, which will initially involve around two dozen stations throughout the city, is a collaboration between the city and the France-based Bolloré Group. BlueIndy Director Scott Prince will be a guest this weekend on Inside INdiana Business Television.
Ultimately, the 200 stations and 500 small electric cars are planned around Marion County. Mayor Greg Ballard’s Office has described it as a first of its kind program in the United States that is in line with the administration’s long-term efforts to reduce the city’s dependence on gasoline-fueled vehicles.
The program has received negative attention recently as Democratic members of the City-County Council have moved to put a halt to the program, citing issues with the city’s $6 million portion of the deal and BlueIndy’s use of prominent parking places on public streets. The are located near several key spots throughout Indy, including the City-County Building, Broad Ripple, Mass Ave, Fountain Square and the Indiana Convention Center.
