The health care liability insurer says it will invest more than $5 million in the project, which is expected to begin in the fall.
The subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. says growing demand is behind the move, which will involve adding more than 10,000 square feet to its headquarters. The company has more than 650 employees nationwide, including about 400 in Indiana. MedPro says it has already begun hiring underwriters, underwriting assistants, customer service representatives, actuaries and claims managers.
MedPro was founded in 1899, and was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2005. The company says it insures more than 140,000 health care providers. Chief Executive Officer Tim Kenessey says Fort Wayne and Indiana have provided a "great environment" for business and employee growth.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered the company up to $700,000 in conditional tax credits based on the job creation plans. The city of Fort Wayne is considering additional incentives.
